Arsenal and Liverpool have become familiar foes and the high-flying pair meet for the third time in six weeks on Sunday afternoon. This game kicks off at 4:30pm on Sunday afternoon and takes place at the Emirates.
Arsenal
Arsenal have now picked up back-to-back wins in the Premier League and have put their mid-season slump firmly behind them. Despite the positive upturn in result, the Gunners did not look entirely comfortable on Tuesday night. They were always in control against Nottingham Forest, yet they struggled to create meaningful opportunities until finally taking the lead in the second half. Mikel Arteta’s side should have been out of sight, however, a late Forest goal rattled the visitors and they came under plenty of pressure during the closing stages.

Arteta’s men may have had a few issues on the road recently, yet they are still very effective in front of their own fans and have lost just a single game here so far this season. Earlier in the campaign, they hosted Man City and won 1-0, they also executed a tactical plan in the first meeting between these sides which finished 1-1.
Fans will have been pleased to see Gabriel Jesus back on the scoresheet with the Brazilian also rattling the woodwork on Tuesday night. He’s vowed to improve his goalscoring record and change his approach in order to become more of a regular finisber. He took his goal exceptionally well and could easily find a way through here on Sunday afternoon.
Liverpool
Liverpool have made the headlines across the last fortnight with the news of Jurgen Klopp’s end-of-season departure. Nevertheless, it was business as usual on Wednesday night as the Reds eased past Chelsea at Anfield. The Merseysiders thoroughly deserved their victory, producing an xG of 2.90 compared to their opponents’ 0.58 and they fired in 28 shots in total.
Although we strongly associate Liverpool with their fantastic home form, they have also been pretty strong on the road. They’ve won each of their last four games away from home and have conceded just a single goal during that period. They’ve suffered just a single away defeat this season and have only dropped points on four occasions (controversially against Spurs).
Jurgen Klopp still has a few absences to overcome with Mo Salah having picked up an injury at AFCON and Wataru Endo still on Asian Cup duty. The German boss has been happy to give the club’s academy graduates plenty of minutes over the last few weeks with Connor Bradley having looked very comfortable in the top flight. The 20-year old has been deputising for the injured Trent Alexander-Arnold and has made the position his own. Bobby Clark also got more minutes under his belt on Wednesday night.
With 200 PL wins under his belt, Klopp will be keen to kick on and end the season on a high. They have already beaten Arsenal in the FA Cup and although both teams made changes when they met at the beginning of January, they will approach this encounter full of confidence.
Klopp will be wary of trying to manage the club’s hectic schedule with the EFL Cup final upcoming alongside the fifth round of the FA Cup. They’ve also had a day less to prepare for this clash.
Head to Head
There have been some memorable recent meet-ups between these two sides (FA Cup excluded). They played out a 2-2 draw in April at Anfield with the hosts coming back from 2-0 down (and missing a penalty). The last PL encounter at this ground between these two sides finished 3-2 to the Gunners courtesy of Bukayo Saka’s 76th minute winner.
Curiously, Arsenal have a fairly poor record on their own patch against Liverpool and have won just twice since 2015.
Liverpool were victorious in the FA Cup in January and they also progressed in the 2022 EFL Cup semi-finals.

Match Prediction
This game is a mouthwatering prospect, however, with both sides having played in midweek, it may not be as explosive as previous meetings. We should see a few goals, but they are likely to arrive after the break.
