Both of these two sides were expected to challenge for the top four this season, however, each of these teams will be looking to bounce back from setbacks last weekend. This game kicks off at 5:30pm UK time and will take place at the AMEX Stadium.
Newcastle
Despite a fair amount of pre-season expectation, Newcastle have made a disappointing start to the new campaign. It could be a little harsh to judge the Magpies given their difficult fixture list, however, their defensive robustness has dissipated this season and they’ve been too open and easily exposed. They blew a one goal lead against ten-man Liverpool and this was quickly followed by a convincing defeat at the AMEX.

Get it & Bet It Now!Although the majority of their players will have been away on international duty this week, the time off will have given Eddie Howe an opportunity to go back to the drawing board and have a re-think.
The club return to the Champions League in midweek and with a exciting trip to the San Siro just days away, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the hosts prove a little distracted in this Saturday evening clash.
Although this is slightly easier than some of their recent fixtures, Newcastle cannot afford to take Brentford lightly. They’ll be hoping to recreate their excellent home form from last season which saw them suffer just two defeats at St. James’ Park throughout the entire campaign. That run included a 5-1 walloping of the Bees in early October.
Brentford
Brentford have carried on where they left off last season. The Bees are one of the most exciting sides to watch in the top flight and rarely make it easy for the opposition. Thomas Frank’s side may only have one victory to their name, yet they remain unbeaten and should have beaten Bournemouth prior to the international break.
Kevin Schade hit the woodwork before his teammates missed numerous chances to take three points. With Bournemouth scoring a suckerpunch of a goal against the run of play, the West Londoners have now drawn two of their first three home games by the same scoreline (2-2)
They’ve netted eight times across their first four matches and even with the continued suspension of Ivan Toney, they aren’t short of firepower. Their xG of 2.19 last time out was impressive and they also looked pretty good going forward in their only away trip so far. This will be a lot tougher than the short hop to Craven Cottage.
Head to Head
Newcastle did the double over Brentford last season, although the Bees did get on the scoresheet in both of those defeats.
Brentford have struggled in this fixture recently with their last win coming in 2020 courtesy of a Josh Dasilva strike. They’ve been here on just four occasions and have conceded at least three goals on every single visit. They’ve also conceded five goals in two of those four visits. Not a happy hunting ground for the Bees.
Key Betting Stats
- 25% of the goals that Brentford have scored this season have come in the final ten minutes
- Bryan Mbuemo netted twice for Cameroon in midweek. He’s already scored four times this season and is averaging 2.3 goals per game.
- Newcastle have an average xG of 2.27 so far this season
- There have been 22 goals across Brentford’s previous four visits to this stadium
- There have been at last four cads in each of Brighton’s and Newcastle’s matches so far.
- Miguel Almiron is yet to score this season despite averaging more shots than any of his teammates
Match Prediction
It’s hard to know what to make of Newcastle and it is difficult to know whether their forthcoming UCL tie will prove to be a distraction. However, they are always strong at home and Brentford do tend to find it difficult in Tyneside. Both sides should get chances.
