Leeds will be hoping to give their survival bid a significant boost as they welcome Newcastle to Elland Road on Saturday lunchtime. The match kicks off at 12:30pm.
Leeds
Leeds fans weren’t particularly in celebratory mood on Bank Holiday as they witnessed relegation rivals Nottingham Forest and Everton pick up maximum points against Southampton and Brighton respectively. Nevertheless, the Whites have an opportunity to put pressure on their fellow strugglers with a lunchtime victory in West Yorkshire on Saturday.

Get it & Bet It Now!The hosts haven’t picked up a top flight victory since April 4th and although they did look better under new boss Sam Allardyce, there is still plenty of work to do. Allardyce is likely to tighten up the defence and go back to basics, although this is far from a simple task against an excellent Newcastle side and one of his former employers.
Crucially, Leeds tend to be better on their own patch and roared on by the passionate home support, the players tend to respond. Five of their seven victories this season have come at Elland Road and have scored in each of their last six here. They’ve not drawn a blank since March 4th and should have enough firepower to find the back of the net this weekend.
Newcastle
Although there is no chance of Newcastle breaking into the top two, they are in pole position to finish third and they simply cannot afford to take their foot off the gas anytime soon. With Manchester United and Liverpool breathing down their necks as well as Spurs showing notable improvement, Eddie Howe will know the importance of collecting maximum points here.
The Magpies were defeated by Arsenal last weekend, although they created plenty of chances in that contest. They’ve suffered just five defeats this season and have made themselves incredibly tough to break down.
Nevertheless, despite possessing one of the division’s best backlines, they have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last seven outings and that should give Leeds’ strikers a much-needed shot of confidence.
Newcastle have been equally as effective on the road this season collected 12 points from the last 15 available away from St. James’ Park.
Head to Head
Recent encounters between these sides haven’t been particularly entertaining with their meeting earlier in the campaign ending goalless. There have been just three goals across the last three fixtures between these two sides and with Leeds likely to tighten up under the new regime, this one is likely to follow suit.
Newcastle have won three of the last eight meetings between these sides with Leeds being victorious on two occasions. The Whites’ last success came in January 2021 when they recorded a 2-1 success in the north east courtesy of Jack Harrison’s late winner.
Key Betting Stats
- Only Man City and Arsenal have picked up more points on the road than Newcastle (30)
- Leeds have conceded more second half goals than any other side in the PL (42). Interestingly, they managed to keep Man City off the scoresheet in the second 45 at the weekend.
- Only Man City have conceded fewer first half goals than Newcastle (13)
- Newcastle have been involved in far more entertaining matches on the road this season. 59% of their away matches have featured three or more goals (compared to 35% at St. James’ Park)
- Over 2.5 Goals has landed in five of Leeds’ last six matches
- Three of Jack Harrison’s four goals this season have come at Elland Road.
- Callum Wilson is one of the division’s most in-form players, however, he is yet to score against Leeds in any of his five meetings with the West Yorkshire outfit.
Match Prediction
Leeds should be better under Sam Allardyce, however, this is a tough assignment and there are easier fixtures to come. Newcastle need to keep winning and they still created of chances against Arsenal at the weekend. They may sneak this, but are unlikely to do it without conceding.
