Everton vs Bournemouth Betting Preview

By Ernie Bibby, Thursday, May 25, 2023 2:38 pm

It’s the final weekend of the Premier League season and there are a number of decisive matches taking place at the bottom of the table. Everton need to take all three points in their final home game of the season as they welcome Bournemouth to Goodison Park.

Everton

It’s been a disaster of a season for the Toffees who have found themselves dragged into a relegation battle. They do possess a two point cushion over both Leeds and Leicester, so a point may just be enough to preserve their PL status.

Nevertheless, settling for a draw is a risky approach and Sean Dyche’s side will need to play on the front foot here. They picked up a point against Wolves last weekend at Molineux, although they picked up multiple injuries in that contest with both Nathan Patterson and talisman Dominic Calvert-Lewin both likely to miss this crucial contest.

Everton have won just seven times this season with five of those victories having arrived at Goodison Park. The Goodison Park faithful will be looking to create a cauldron of noise throughout the 90 minutes and that should help the hosts pick up all three points on Sunday afternoon.

Worryingly, the Toffees have been better on the road recently and have avoided defeat in each of their last four away games. In sharp contrast, the Merseysiders have failed to win any of their last four at this venue, losing each of their last three.

Bournemouth

Despite flirting with relegation throughout the majority of the campaign, Bournemouth secured their Premier League safety with a couple of weeks to spare.

The Cherries have an eight point cushion over the bottom three and their January splurge, coupled with the appointment of Gary O’Neill has enabled them to book their place in next season’s top flight.

Despite this, the Cherries have been hugely inconsistent in recent weeks and they haven’t drawn a game since February 11th. They come into this game in relatively poor form having lost each of their last three and are the archetypal ‘on the beach’ team of the division.

Nevertheless, Bournemouth have been better on the road recently and they’ve won three of their last four away from the Vitality.

Head to Head

There has been a fairly even split in recent seasons whenever these two sides have met. Across the last 13 meetings, Everton have been victorious in five whereas Bournemouth have secured six wins during that period. Only two of the last 13 games have ended all-square.

Bournemouth have dominated the recent head-to-head and have won each of the last four meetings. They hammered Everton in Dorset in mid-November (3-0), although Everton created several good chances in that contest.

Generally speaking, matches between these sides can be entertaining. 77% of the last 13 meetings have featured Over 2.5 Goals whereas 69% of those games have ended with BTTS.

Key Betting Stats

  • Everton have scored 2+ goals in just 6% of their home matches this season
  • The Toffees have conceded 10 goals across their last three home matches.
  • The hosts have scored exactly one goal in nine of their last 11 home games.
  • Bournemouth have conceded a penalty in a third of their away games this season (6 in 18)
  • The Cherries have scored just 17 times in their 18 away matches.
  • Gary O’Neill’s side have failed to score in 50% of their matches on the road. Nevertheless, they have found the net in five of their last seven away from home.
  • 33% of the goals that Bournemouth have conceded this season have either come in the first 10 minutes or the final ten minutes.

Match Prediction

It’s hard to back Everton at home with any conviction, however, they’re desperate for the points and this appears to be the ideal fixture. Bournemouth have very little to play for and although they should remain competitive, they are likely to end the campaign with a narrow defeat.
