Former Manchester City captain and icon Vincent Kompany returns to Etihad as Burnley boss when the two sides meet in the FA Cup on Saturday evening.
Man City
Manchester City have looked unstoppable in recent weeks and they stuck seven past Leipzig in midweek. Pep Guardiola’s side may be five points shy of Arsenal in the Premier League title race, however, it is still possible for the Citizens to complete the treble this season.
Match has ended
City have already eliminated Arsenal and Chelsea from the FA Cup this season and having been asked questions by Bristol City in the previous round, they will know that this will be far from straightforward.
The club are always competitive in the FA Cup and they have reached this stage in each of the last four seasons. A semi-final at Wembley potentially awaits for Pep’s men and they will be looking to become just the third side in the history of the competition to reach five consecutive semi-finals.
City have been praised for their attacking abilities, however, they are yet to concede a goal in this competition so far. They’ve also kept four consecutive clean sheets across all competitions.
Burnley
Vincent Kompany will shortly become a Premier League manager. The former defender has been superb at Turf Moor and he has guided Burnley to an unassailable lead at the summit of the second tier.
They haven’t reached the semi-final stage of this competition for almost 50 years and given their form in the Championship, they’ll be fairly confident of keeping this game competitive.
Kompany made over 350 appearances for Manchester City and has a statue outside of the Etihad. City fans are likely to give him an excellent reception and he will undoubtedly enjoy being back at this venue.
The Clarets dumped Premier League opposition out of this competition in January, however, they’ve had some fairly favourable subsequent draws with narrow victories over League One duo Ipswich and Fleetwood.
