Chelsea vs Everton Betting Preview

By Ernie Bibby, Friday, March 17, 2023 5:00 pm

Chelsea will host struggling Everton in the Premier League on Saturday evening. The game kicks off at 5:30pm and takes place at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea

Graham Potter’s tenure at Chelsea has been far from straightforward, however, there are signs that he is slowly turning things around. The Blues coach was reportedly on the brink of getting sacked in late February, yet he’s overseen back-to-back Premier League victories and knocked Borussia Dortmund out of the Champions League.

Chelsea’s defence has always been fairly tight, however, it’s their attack which has been powderpuff. Last weekend’s 3-1 victory over Leicester was the first time that they’ve scored more than two goals in a game since October 8th. This date is key as it was also the last time that the hosts won back-to-back matches at Stamford Bridge.

There are signs that the January splurge is starting to pay off with the new arrivals beginning to settle in.

Everton

Everton sit in 15th, yet they are still deeply embroiled in a relegation battle. The Toffees are just a point above the drop zone and with third bottom Bournemouth having recently found form, they are nervously glancing over their shoulders.

Sean Dyche’s side are the joint-lowest scorers in the PL alongside Wolves and Southampton, although they have scored in each of their last two matches.

Performances have undoubtedly improved under the new management and they are tougher to beat. Only five sides have picked up more points than Everton since Sean Dyche arrived in Merseyside.

Nevertheless, their away form is underwhelming and they are without a win on the road since the October 1st.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin could potentially return for this clash, however, he may not be able to play a full 90. Andros Townsend remains unavailable.

Head to Head

Recent games between these two sides have been tight and cagey affairs. Both meetings last season ended 1-0 and with just seven goals across the last five head-to-heads, we’re not expecting a thriller at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.

There has been a fairly even split between these sides with Chelsea winning 15 of the last 36 meetings. Almost a third (11 of 36) have ended all-square, although just one of the last eight have ended level.

Everton haven’t beaten Chelsea at this venue since November 1994.

Key Betting Stats

  • Chelsea matches have featured the joint-fewest goals this season with an average of just 2.04 per match
  • Chelsea home matches have averaged just 1.83 goals per game.
  • The Blues have conceded the joint-lowest number of home goals alongside Manchester United (8)
  • Only West Ham and Nottingham Forest have scored fewer away goals than Everton this season
  • Under 2.5 Goals has landed in eight of the last ten meetings between these sides.
  • Four of Kai Havertz’s six goals for Chelsea this season have come at Stamford Bridge
  • Everton have collected more yellow cards than their opponents in six of their last seven Premier League matches

Match Prediction

Sean Dyche’s side will scrap their way throughout this contest, but they might find it tough to break through this Chelsea rear-guard. The Blues are very stingy at Stamford Bridge and don’t give much away. They should be able to continue their recent momentum.
